The Drachen Mountains

The Drachen Mountains, home to the dragons of Mistyc. What is there truly to say about them? On my personal experience, they are irascible, ill-tempered creatures with a nasty tendency towards fresh meat and long life. As dragons go, they are not the friendly type. And yet, they hold fascination like non other. Huge creatures, ranging in size from forty feet to one hundred feet, they come in every color, as well as a few simple patterns.

Dragon Lore

The legends of dragons and maidens go back thousands of years, and span many universes. In Mistyc, the dragon enjoys have a woman around for rather simple reasons. Dragon hide is a delicate thing, and very often scales will itch when they become dirty. Many places on their own bodies the dragons can not reach, and must have help to relieve the annoyance. It was for this reason that the first dragon made friends with a young girl, and it has been a popular thing to do since. A jealous young spouse once had to steal away his wife-to-be in the night, making up a ridiculous story of a fantastic fight with the dragon, and elves being elves, they believed him.

Dragon Treasures

Dragons are well-known for their tendency to hoard things. At first a simple quest for bedding that doesn't ignite when slept on, the dragon's lust for gold has swelled, until it has become an undeniable fact of existence for them. Many dragons go so far as to stop all contact with others, just to lord over their hoards. Others restrict themselves to a small fortune, and these are much more sociable. Many of the visitors to these friendlier dragons, however, mistake their amiability for foolishness, and try to come away with a little more than a good conversation. These people discover just exactly how the dragons got their reputation.

The Hierarchy System

The dragons of Mistyc are headed by a King, called the 'S'an L'ment,' or 'Wise One.' This dragon king is the final word on all discussions and disputes, and none can argue his or her word. Once a century, the L'ment calls together all dragons in a huge assembly to announce the next king, no matter the health, age, or competence of the current one. Any dragon in the mountains has a chance to be the next king, unless they have been banished.
